I have devoted my life to documenting the boreal forest ecosystem, a biome that wraps circumpolar around the northern hemisphere, produces a large portion of the earths oxygen, and acts as a carbon sink by sequestering carbon in trees. To date, the majority of my portfolio has been produced in the southern fringe of this ecosystem found in northeastern Minnesota.
I am currently working on a life-long project to document the impacts of climate change on Minnesota's boreal forests. The project is being executed alongside the Superior National Forest, Beltrami Island State Forest and Camp Norris, and Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness. I will be illustrating how our forests change over time, the spatial overlap between boreal species and non-boreal species, the impact on our northern communities, and the entirety of the boreal ecosystem using photography, videography, and time-lapse photography.
